Where the Hunt Ends at the Table

An Upscale, All-Inclusive Whitetail Hunt

Most bowhunting trips are a cold sit, a cold truck, and a gas-station dinner. At Double P Ranch, an upscale, all-inclusive South Dakota whitetail hunt means the blind is only half the story. You slip out at last light, walk into a warm lodge, pour something from a full bar, and sit down to aged beef or wild game cooked by a chef who has not repeated a menu all season.

We've hosted hunters in the Prairie Pothole country of northeastern South Dakota since 1996. Hundreds of acres are set aside and managed for bowhunters, the deer are wild, and every detail between sunrise and the last sit is handled. All you carry to the blind is your bow. Lodging, meals, the bar and the planning are already handled, so the whole trip runs on one price.

The Lodge

A Luxury Whitetail Hunting Lodge

Two lodges. One standard.

Guests stay at El Jefe Lodge or Lakeview Lodge (see our luxury accommodations) — luxury accommodations on the ranch itself. There's no early-morning drive from a motel in town. You wake up on the property, the coffee is on, and you're heading to your blind while other hunters are still on the highway.

Evenings belong to the great room: stories of the buck that walked at forty yards, replays on the phone, a fire, and a bar stocked for the occasion. It's the kind of place hunting groups and corporate retreats come back to year after year.

  • Two luxury lodges: El Jefe and Lakeview
  • Full bar and evening gathering space
  • Ideal for hunting buddies, family groups and corporate retreats

Gourmet Lodge Dining

Chef-Prepared. Never the Same Twice.

Food is where Double P Ranch separates from every other South Dakota hunting lodge. Every meal is prepared by our chef from locally sourced ingredients: aged beef, wild game harvested on the prairie, and dishes built around the season. It's a dinner worth the walk back from the blind.

We don't run a rotation. Stay a week and you won't see the same menu twice. Browse our recipes.

Nonresident Hunters

Your South Dakota Buck Tag: No Draw, No Points

One of the easiest whitetail tags in the Midwest for an out-of-state bowhunter.

In many whitetail states, nonresidents wait years in a draw. Not here. Because every Double P Ranch archery hunt takes place on private land, nonresidents qualify for South Dakota's private-land-only any-buck archery license — sold over the counter with an unlimited quota. Buy it online, print it, and you're hunting.

The Hunt

Private Whitetail Ground, Managed for the Bow

Archery-only deer hunting. Low pressure by design.

Double P Ranch sets aside dedicated bow properties, from tight 40-acre pinch points to a 320-acre block, hundreds of acres where deer are hunted with a bow only. We manage this ground to keep pressure light, so deer move the way prairie whitetails are supposed to move: in daylight, on their own schedule, toward your blind.

Northeastern South Dakota is classic Prairie Pothole terrain, with rolling grass, crop fields, shelterbelts and wetlands. Whitetails cycle between bedding cover, water and food every day. On our bow properties they find food plots planted for them, and comfortable enclosed blinds waiting on the edges.

  • Hundreds of acres of private land managed for bowhunting
  • Dedicated bow properties from 40 to 320 acres
  • Comfortable enclosed blinds
  • Food plots planted to hold and draw whitetails
  • Private ground — no competition from other hunters

Enclosed Blinds Built for Long Sits

Our enclosed blinds keep you hidden, out of the wind and comfortable, from a warm September evening to a below-zero December morning. Quiet windows open to shooting lanes over food plots and travel routes, giving you a steady, close shot at a deer that never knew you were there.

Food Plots That Hold Deer

Food plots on the bow properties give whitetails a reason to stay and a reason to show up before dark. As crops come off the surrounding fields in fall, these plots become the best groceries on the prairie, and the blinds are set to cover them.

Three Seasons in One

01

September · Early Season

Bucks still on summer feeding patterns. Warm evenings, predictable movement, and the best odds of catching a velvet-to-hard-horn buck on a field edge.

02

November · The Rut

Seeking and chasing across the prairie. All-day sits pay off, and the biggest deer on the property finally make mistakes in daylight.

03

December · Late Season

Cold fronts push deer to the food. Short days, hard frost, and some of the most consistent evening movement of the year.

A Buck at Bow Range

This is what low-pressure bow ground looks like at last light. A mature whitetail eases through the timber on his own schedule, unpressured and unhurried, close enough to count tines.

With deer hunted by bow only and pressure kept light, mature bucks keep their daylight habits through the archery season. That's the reason we manage this ground the way we do.

Questions

South Dakota Whitetail Hunt FAQ

Can a nonresident get a South Dakota archery whitetail tag without a draw?

Yes. For the 2026 season, South Dakota sells the nonresident any-buck archery license valid on private land only (ADN-ST1) over the counter with an unlimited quota. It costs $375 and is bought online from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. Because Double P Ranch hunts on private land, that license is all you need — no draw and no preference points.

How much does an archery whitetail hunt at Double P Ranch cost?

A 4-day / 5-night all-inclusive archery whitetail hunt is $4,595 per hunter, and a 5-day / 6-night hunt is $5,595, for September and December dates. November rut dates are $500 more: $5,095 and $6,095. Prices are plus South Dakota sales tax, and the archery license is purchased separately.

When is archery deer season in South Dakota?

In 2026 the archery deer season on private land runs September 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027. Public land opens October 1. That gives bowhunters early-season patterns, the November rut, and late-season cold-weather hunting.

What makes Double P Ranch an upscale whitetail hunting lodge?

Most whitetail outfitters provide a stand and a bunk. The ranch has hosted hunters in Clark, South Dakota since 1996.

How do I get to Double P Ranch?

Is deer hunting at Double P Ranch archery only?

Yes. Deer on our bow properties are hunted with archery equipment only. These properties range from 40 to 320 acres and total hundreds of acres. Some see limited upland bird hunting during pheasant season, but they are managed to keep pressure on the deer low so they keep moving in daylight.
