Do you mix groups?
|
| No. Many places will combine hunting parties; we do not do that. By South Dakota
law, hunting parties can number up to twenty hunters. Groups this size can be
dangerous and difficult to control. Several hunters often shoot at birds
simultaneously under these circumstances. At Double P Ranch your group will not
exceed eight hunters and will have exclusive access to the land. |
How much hunting land do you have?
|
| Many places advertise thousands of acres but have relatively small percentage
in good pheasant habitat. This often results in a scarcity of birds later in
the season. At Double P Ranch we have nearly 2000 acres in all of which nearly
1600 acres is comprised of native grasses, wetlands, shelterbelts, and food
plots. |
Can you accommodate smaller (1-3) groups?
|
| Yes, if our main cabin is not full (< five hunters). We have a fully
equipped trailer, which we place on a satellite property. Your group will have
exclusive access to several properties non-contiguous with the main property.
If the main cabin is not in use (often in late-season) we will lodge your group
there. |
Are the birds wild?
|
| Yes! We spent several years building winter habitat to sustain a significant
bird population. We believe in fair chase hunting. We hear every year of
other hunters having very easy late season hunts: “the birds were just walking in
front of us”. We are still waiting to see that happen on our ranch! Either
it is the genetics of the birds or those other hunters are shooting pen-raised birds. |
How is the late season hunting?
|
| Over the last few years we have consistently taken limits or near-limits of
pheasant throughout the season. We have a steady influx of birds throughout the
season. We are the largest block of habitat in the area. We often see more
birds in the late season than the early season. Of course late season birds can
be wily to say the least. Shooting a limit of prime late season wild ringnecks
is an accomplishment. |
What do you do if the late-season weather turns bad?
|
| We will either try to reschedule your hunt or refund your deposit. |
Do you charge extra for extra nights?
|
| No. Staying an extra night or two makes for a more leisurely and restful
hunting trip. |
Do you guarantee the hunt?
|
| Yes, if for any reason you do not believe you had a quality hunting experience
(for example, too few birds, not enough habitat, etc) we will gladly refund your money.
By the way, poor marksmanship is not a valid excuse! |
